Coronavirus and Menopause – Do you have a higher risk?

I’m sure a lot of women undergoing Menopause have had this question popping in their heads about how their bodies will react to the novel coronavirus. Questions like, are menopausal women more at-risk? Are there ways to decrease the risk? are very common ones ask themselves.

These are all good questions since Menopause can already be a trying time (to say the least!) without a pandemic halting normal life. Lifestyle changes and other therapies may be utilized at this time, but nothing prepares you for a global pandemic during Menopause, so it’s important to understand how this novel virus might affect you.

Are menopausal women specifically more at risk for the Coronavirus?

With the onset of Menopause comes increased risks of heart diseases, diabetes, and even weight gain if not monitored. These comorbidities definitely increase the risk for women who may contract COVID-19. Sadly, for women in Menopause, a decrease in estrogen potentially makes them more vulnerable to severe symptoms. What can you do straight away in order to support your physical and mental being in Covid times and Menopause?

What can you do straight away in order to support your physical and mental being in Covid times and Menopause?

I can’t say it enough but reduce stress in your life! Not only can stress lead to high blood pressure and heart attacks in women, but it also can increase hot flashes. Now if this isn’t a red flag then I don’t know what is! Take advantage of opportunities to “chill out” during the summer. Hang out in a hammock. Bury yourself in a book (not the sand) at the beach. Go to an outdoor yoga class. Do anything that takes your mind off stress.

Routine is in, spontaneous is out!

Routine is in, spontaneous is out!

No matter what happens, when you reach Menopause, always work out regularly and follow a fitness routine! Exercise not only helps in weight maintenance and building stamina but according to Dr. Richardson “When you stay in a fitness routine, the adrenal glands, which control our stress pathways, stay calm. I know a lot of routines have been disrupted by this pandemic — so you may even need to create a new routine to stay healthy.” So set your calendars and off you go on to less stress and a happy you!

Apart from the above-mentioned factors that may help you cope up with the pandemic stress, it's important that you sleep well and meditate. Hormone replacement therapies are advised at this stage, however, I strongly believe that the best way to go forward in dealing with Menopausal symptoms safely is by going natural. Remifemin is an excellent relief to menopausal symptoms without harming your body and in fact producing resistance to infections by increasing the body's immune response naturally. Please always consult a doctor before starting any medications including Remifemin!

Have an awesome day ahead, beautiful!
