Festivals, Marie Kondo, and Menopause

Hello readers. It’s good to connect back after all the fasting and festivities. It was amazing how the whole world was fasting one way or the other- Lent, Ramadan, Navratri, and others.

I visited my family in India at the start of Ramadan. My house was under renovation and my family struggled to let go of loads of things that my mom had collected in the belief that they may come in handy someday. Yes, we are a typical Asian family. A few things were easy to let go of, but stuff with emotional connection was just so difficult to throw away. But we sure know, we cannot add new things to life, unless you vacate the previous.

And that’s exactly what connects my 3 words- Festivals, Marie Kondo and Menopause- they all call for Detox, De-cluttering, and Re-invention- be it physical zone, emotional space, or spiritual state of mind.

I look at decluttering as an act of self-care. Retain the things that still spark joy in life and bring tranquility. Discard everything else. Menopause is one such time in life, which asks for transformation and re-invention.

Q. How do I detox?

Detoxing is an integral part of any transformation. No, no- I am not talking only about the early morning lemon warm water detox. I am talking about -breaking old habits to learn new ones, freeing up time and space, and reducing baggage. But remember to keep the plan simple and fun, to sustain it for long. Our mind is naïve, and they can slip very easily onto the old and easier path.

  • We need to train it time and again, so:

  • Remove excess sugars and excess salts from your diet

  • Remove excessive exposure to gadgets

  • Remove an excessive number of un-connected social circles

  • Recycle/donate things that you haven’t used even once in the last 6 months- Clothes, books, gadgets, toys

  • Unlearn old patterns and belief systems

Q. How do I re-invent?

And NOW that you have done the clearance, you have space and time in hand to Re-invent and re-fill it meaningful

  • Start choosing healthy options in food. What you need at this point is something to calm you, take care of your symptoms physically, and keep the body system stronger for longer. My advice is to choose between the below (You may find a whole range of natural supplements on Fitaminat)

  1. Black Cohosh (Remifemin is an option) for nightly sweats

  2. Manuka Honey to ease hot flushes

  3. Vitamin D and multivitamin supplement (Check Vitabalans DMax)

  4. Calcium and other minerals

  5. Seeds and nuts

  6. Chamomile tea

  7. Maca powder for green smoothies and apple cider vinegar (capsules also available)

  • Fill your space with a minimalist approach with loads of natural light, plants, and open fresh air

  • Do not forget your daily dose of Sunlight- for strong bones, better mood, and uninterrupted beauty sleep

  • Exercise and join community-based groups that believe in the same

  • Connect with your spiritual self. Meditation and breathing exercises are helpful- each one has a different way to bring that mindfulness. While doing that, you would know what makes you tranquil and gratified to reach that eternal happy space.

  • Charity and Volunteering work

  • I hope the above works for you, as it does for me. I am happy to hear from you any more ideas for Detox. Bring it on

Until next time, Ciao.
